Book Review ~ Cruel Money by K.A Linde

I received an ARC of Cruel Money by K.A Linde and Oh my god it was amazing! I was instantly pulled into the story. There wasn’t a dull or slow moment in the book at all. It had everything in it from romance to tragedy. I’m in a serious book hangover right now and the book ended on a major cliffhanger. The book is part of a 3 book series, the second book releases in April and already I think that’s too far away 🙂 This was a definite 5+ star read, I already want to read it again.

Cruel Money is somewhat of a second chance romance. Penn and Natalie had met 6 years prior in Paris and had a fling, he left her behind and she resented him for it ever since. Rewind 6 years to Natalie house sitting his summer house! When she had a fling with him 6 years ago, she didn’t know he was basically Manhattan Royalty. Can Natalie get past what had happened 6 years ago and get to know the real Penn?

K.A Linde is a new author for me, after reading this ARC i’m definitely going to check out her other series. She’s an amazing writer and I can’t wait to be introduced to her other book boyfriends.

Book Review ~ Evidence of Desire by Lexi Blake

I received an ARC of Evidence of desire by Lexi Blake. The book is told in the 3rd person and is a murder mystery romance. This is the first mystery romance I’ve ever read. I’m having a hard time getting into the book. I find there’s too much detail, likely because it’s told in the 3rd person and I wish the author would get on with the story.

The book is interesting but has too many details and too many things going on at once. A potential blossoming romance, a murder investigation and a potential scandal. I’ve had a hard time keeping track. Again, I think there’s so much detail because it’s told in the 3rd person and I’m not a fan of 3rd person writing, I much prefer to be in the thoughts of the characters not the narrators, it helps me develop a connection with the characters, something you don’t  get with a 3rd person narration.

The first sex scene didn’t happen until almost halfway through the book and it was a disappointment. All this build up for a moment that wasn’t portrayed as sexy. Part of reading romance novels is the fantasy aspect of the whole love story, how they met, their first kiss, their first time having sex, the last thing I want to read is about words and actions that could typically be found in a normal relationship. I want to read about the fantasy and wish it could happen in real life.

If your a fan of 3rd party narration, this is a 5 star read. It’s full of suspense, both for the murder investigation and the buildup of a romance. If your like me and aren’t a fan of 3rd party narration this is is a 3 star read and that’s why I have to give this book 3 stars.

“You catching that?” Jase asked, his focus returning to the poster and the tape.

“Catching what?” Heather replied.

Poster in hand, he moved to the front window and pressed it against the glass, smoothing it before turning back to her. “Catching the little buzz we have going on between us.”

“A little… the thing is…” C’mon Heather, be strong. You are the cookie lady now. You don’t date. You are all you need. That’s what the podcast she’d been listening to said to her over and over again. Mantra in hand, she slapped on her I’m-in-charge-here-buddy mask. “It would never work between us.”

The edges of his lips ticked up ever so slightly. “You can’t know that.”

Oh, she knew.

He sauntered toward her.

Unwilling to back down, she stepped toward him. Expression firm, she said, “I can already see exactly how this whole thing would play out if we let it. You’d start with a horrible pick up line.”

“Guilty.” His hands fell to the belt loops of his jeans.

Her palm itched to press against the front of his tee, but she refrained. “Then I’d counter with a witty response. This time my reply would be even better. Funny, intelligent…everything.”

“Now, that I’d like to hear.” Nothing but a foot of crackling air sizzled between them.

“Trust me, if I had said it, it would have been epic. You can’t repeat something like that. It has to happen in the moment.” She shook her head, the sleek ponytail she’d carefully arranged earlier brushing against the collar of her jacket.

“That right there is why we wouldn’t have worked out. I mean you couldn’t even come up with a snappier reply.” He crossed his arms, the little veins of his muscled forearms flexing with the motion.

“Oh, I would’ve. It would’ve been the best response in the history of pick-up line replies.”

“I don’t believe you.” The glimmer in his eyes lit up his entire face.

He was clearly enjoying this exchange entirely too much.

Control. She needed the power back. “Trust would’ve always been one of your issues in our relationship.”

“Maybe you just couldn’t be honest with me about how you felt. That’s probably why we would have always argued.” He raised his eyebrows in a clear ultimatum.

Challenge accepted.

She stepped the tiniest bit closer to him. “Let’s say you threw out that awful line again. The one about taking me out.”

“I’m with you so far.” He glanced down to the floor in clear acknowledgment of her movement forward, but he held his ground.

“We’d banter for a good bit—”

His face sparked with humor. “Sounds about right.”

“Both of us would get that tingly feeling of attraction. You know the one.” So maybe she made her voice a little breathier than usual. Sue her.

His mouth parted, the exaggerated fullness of his lower lip apparent. “You have a tingly feeling?”

She shook her head and raised a hand. Not touching his chest like she desperately wanted to but getting within millimeters. “That’s not the important part. Eventually you would convince me to go on a date.”

“I’d take you to this great taco stand. I love tacos.”

“Despite that, I’d probably let you take me out again. And again,” she said, not willing to acknowledge the way she wanted to nip at his lip with her teeth.

He nodded. “I’m digging this relationship so far.”

“Eventually, you’d ask me to move in. I’d say no. You’d pressure me, even though I wouldn’t be ready.”

“What can I say? I wouldn’t want to spend a night away from you. No use paying for two apartments.” She shrugged, dropping her hand.

“I’d cave, and we’d finally move in together—”

“Do we get to hook up first? Don’t skip that part.” This time he moved forward. Not a lot, just a smidge.

She stayed put. She refused to back up first. “Of course. It would be awful. Sorry Speed Racer, but I need more than three minutes of go-time.”

“That’s not what you’d say after you screamed my name.” He leaned forward, the whisper of his words brushing against her ear.

God, there wasn’t but a breath of space between them. She was all turned-on Heather, ready to throw her why-have-a-man-when-you-can-have-cookies resolve away.

His breath smelled of cinnamon candy and coffee, turning her knees effectively to melted butter.
No, she stopped herself. Back to the break-up at hand.

Zane Phillips mistook me for his dog walker. It shouldn’t surprise me that the man with a suit more expensive than my rent would assume that I was there to serve him. The positive? I put him in his place. The negative? I missed my job interview because of it. Now I find out he’s a rich Australian entrepreneur, and he wants to make up for tanking my interview.

Yes, he’s impossibly hot – but he’s also an arrogant jackass – so…no thanks.

But after a little white lie I tell spirals out of control, I’m somehow offered the chance to play Zane’s girlfriend to help promote his new dating website – and the best part? He can’t say no because he’ll get caught in his lie, too.

Little did I know this would entail sharing a tour bus with him for the next few months. The fact that the bus has just one bed isn’t the most ideal of circumstances, but this spokesperson gig might be the kick in the pants my career needs, so why not take a chance?

Famous last words.

Now I’m crisscrossing the country – and sharing that bed – with the one guy I can’t stand. And even worse, my traitorous body is wondering at every turn what it’s like to be down under the gorgeous Australian. But as the miles unfurl, so does our passion…and if I’m not careful, I might end up believing that fairy tales really do come true.

Crushing on the Cop – RELEASE DAY – OCTOBER 25th!

Cristian Bianco has two things against him—he’s a police officer and he’s a police officer in the 18th District…meaning my dad is his boss.

Growing up as the Commander’s daughter and having his magnifying glass focused on everything I did was more than I could handle.

Now, I’m out on my own, living by my own rules. Well, mostly. The ‘job’ I created for myself has me in some hot water and my exit strategy isn’t exactly working out how I’d hoped.

Which is why when my best friend bids on Cristian for me at a charity bachelor auction, I’m not having it. A man in blue is only going to be one thing for me—a problem.

Except after his brother starts dating my best friend he becomes harder to ignore. The eight-pack abs. The sense of style only a girl like me can appreciate. The way he puts his family first. It all adds up to make him one irresistible prospect and has me wondering if he knows how to use those handcuffs the right way—by locking my wrists to his headboard.

Hold you close

hold you close

I absolutely loved Hold you close by Corrine Michaels and Melanie Harlow. It’s a second chance romance that contains heartache, humor and love. It’s a beautiful love story that was impossible to put down.  Both leading characters, London and Ian, are stubborn and refuse to let the past go and see they were meant to be together. You can’t help but want to yell at them both to get their heads out of their butts and see what they really mean to each other. Every character is easy to fall in love with

I love collaborations between 2 or more authors. Your following the story and then all of a sudden the story goes in a complete different direction that you were not anticipating and that’s what I love about collaborations.

She was his sisters best friend, he was her best friends brother who broke her heart as a teenager. He pushed her away as a teenager so she wouldn’t throw away her dream college for him but she just think’s he was being a typical playboy. Twenty years later they still hate each other and are thrown into co-parenting his sisters three kids when tragedy hits. Can they put the past behind them and fall in love again? Worth the Risk review

As with every other one of K. Brombergs books you will not be able to put this one down. I read the entire book in less than 24 hours, which isn’t uncommon for me with Kristy’s books. I was lucky enough to be selected to receive an ARC for my honest review of this book. It was another 5 star read. Grayson is my favourite Malone brother. If you fell in love with Grant and Grady (who was my favourite Malone boy prior to this book) and high expectations for Grayson. Instantly I fell in love with him. Being a mom myself, there is nothing as sexy as watching a man be a father and play with his children. Kristy has a talent to her that allows her words to come to life. I could picture Grasyon playing with Luke in the opening chapter of the book and my heart melted. I loved the subtle call outs to Colton and Driven by K. Bromberg, at least I think they are call outs to the book that got it started for Kristy but maybe I just have Colton on the brain.

When I finished this book, I was disappointed that we’ve read the last book on the Malone boys, that I wasn’t going to see what happened after the epilogue. With Grant and Grady I knew we would get little glimpses into their life as they appeared in their brother’s stories (don’t worry, there’s no spoilers on the story within each book and they can be read independently and out of order) then I reached the final page of the book before the about the author and saw there was going to be another standalone from this Everyday Heroes series and I got hope that maybe Desi’s book, although her best friend is Emmerson, would give us a little sneak into Grayson and Sydney again. A girl can hope right?

I’m not one to cry while reading books but Worth the Wait brought tears to my eyes several times. My heart was ripped out of my chest more times than I can count. Out of all the books I’ve read, this one hit me hard. Although I’m not a single parent, I am a parent. I can relate with Grayson and how he wants to protect his son, Luke, from getting hurt after his mothers walks out of him and Grayson when Luke was an infant.

If you haven’t already, grab your copy of Cuffed, Combust and Worth the Risk and start falling in love with the Malone men today.

Synopsis

This whole contest was supposed to be easy. I know, I know. Famous last words.

It’s a long story, but I messed up at work. Big time. To earn back the trust of my boss, I promised to save one of our magazines. Yep. That Hot Dad contest you’ve seen advertised all over the place was my idea. And if I’m successful, if I’m able to increase our online readership, then I get a shot at my dream job.

But the one thing I never expected to happen, happened: Contestant number ten, Grayson Malone. Hello, Mr. Difficult. And did I mention sexy as hell?

Unfortunately he knows me. The old me, anyway. And while we might be older now, I remind him of before. Of the woman who broke his heart, who hardened him, and who left him alone to raise the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen.

But I don’t want a relationship. And I definitely don’t fall for single dads with baggage. Even ones with chiseled abs and killer smiles.

But he got to me. They got to me. Him and his son and their messy, crazy life. But I got to him too. I see the stolen glances. I feel the walls he built start to crumble. I recognize that there’s an unexpected beauty to the chaos in his life.

And now that the contest is about to end, we’re left to decide whether the last six months were just fun or if what we have is worth risking it all?

Excerpt

But by the time I reach her, my blood boils with irrationality spurred on by too much alcohol.“Can I have a moment?” I ask as I walk up to her and grab her elbow, pushing her down the darkened hallway.“What is your problem?” She hisses as she fights me every step of the way.

We get looks. I get looks. I don’t care because all I keep seeing is Vince’s hands on her arm. His eyes on her tits. His bullshit game I can spot a mile away.

I find the closest door down the hallway leading to the bathrooms, and it opens. I push her through it, barely noticing that it’s an office of sorts before the door is shut, her back is up against it, and my mouth is covering hers.

Take.

Goddammit. That’s my only thought as I fit my lips to hers and take out my anger on her mouth with tongue and teeth and every fucking lick and nip in between.

“What—”

“I’m so pissed at you.”

It’s all I say. It’s the only chance I give her to come up for air before my lips are back on hers. Before my tongue wars with hers. Before my body admits it would beg, borrow, and steal in order to taste every other part of her.

Groan.

I swallow the tiny sound she makes in our kiss as my hands hold her neck still and my lips wage an all-out assault. She hesitates—just a split second—before she reacts. Before her body bows into me, and her mouth argues back.

Fist.

Her hand in my shirt. Her other hand at the back of my neck as our bodies meet—pressed knee to chest. Her perfume in my nose. Her hair tickling my cheeks. The feel of her tits against my chest.

Give.

I can’t get enough.

I’m mad at her.

I want her.

I don’t want to want her.

Christ, do I want her.

“Gray.” A murmured protest.

I tear my lips from hers, shove off the door I have her pressed against, and stride to the other side of the room.

“You are . . . you just . . .” It’s as if I can barely breathe. Christ, I’m mad at you.”

She stands there, lips parted, chest heaving, and golden brown curls messed from my hands, but her eyes look hurt. A hurt I don’t want to see but can’t deny.

“Why?”

“You did this,” I accuse as I try to manage the anger that’s waging a war against my desire.

“Did what?” Her eyes narrow. Her hand goes to press against her chest.

“Made me want you.”

for CGFC

Grayson: I’ve been thinking about you all day.

I look down at the text and smile before turning my attention back to Rissa and our plans for how we’re going to end this round of voting and move on to the top five.

“So, I think we close it out and then maybe take the next week and announce one of the finalists each day. Give little tidbits about each of them, make readers like them more, just have fun with it.”

My phone beeps again with another text, and I bite back the new grin trying to form on my lips. Rissa only huffs, eyeing my phone with annoyance. “Sorry, let me turn my ringer off.”

And then I have to feign nonchalance when I look down at my phone and find another text.

Grayson: My dick is rock hard, and it’s you I’m imagining. It’s in my hand when I’d rather it be in your mouth with my fingers in your pussy, working you into a frenzy.

“Is everything okay?” Rissa asks, making me realize I must have made a noise when I read the text. “You look startled.”

I glance back at the text again and shake my head while every part of my body comes to life. “Yeah, it’s, uh, fine.”

“Your ringer.” Her brows are lifted as she glances to my phone and then back to me.

My finger?” I squeak, thinking she saw the phone screen.

“Ringer. Sound on your phone.”

“Oh, yes . . . sorry.” Flustered, I fumble with my cell, and before I can even switch it off, another text alert pings.

Grayson: I want to bend you over and watch as my cock slides in and out of you.

“So back to next week . . .”

“Yes,” I swallow over the desire lodged in every place it should be and try not to glance at my phone as it vibrates again.

“Are you good with that plan?” Rissa asks as I shift in my seat to abate the sudden ache burning brighter than bright.

“Yes. Sure. I think that sounds like a great plan.”

Grayson: I want my cock buried so deep that you feel every damn inch of me.

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Yeah, why?” My voice breaks like a prepubescent teenager.

Grayson: I want you to come so hard you have to bite the pillow.

“You look a little flushed. Are you coming down with something?”

Grayson: You always have a choice. Isn’t that what you said to me once? Make a choice, Sidney. Isn’t it time to head to lunch?

“I mean, yeah, maybe.” I pull at my collar some. “Maybe that’s why I feel so flushed all of a sudden.”

Grayson: Meet me on the backside of The Cottages. Room Six. Fifteen minutes.

“Either that,” she says as she stands and heads to the door, only turning back to give me a wink, “or you’re guilty as hell. Maybe you should go take care of that itch texting you . . . or take some Tylenol. Whichever one it is, I think you should take the afternoon off.”

Grayson: Choose me.

“Oh.” It’s the only thing I can think to say because my brain is otherwise occupied imagining Grayson following through on his promises.

“And, Sid?”

“Yeah?”

“I sure hope he’s every bit worth breaking the rules.” She winks. “It’s about damn time. Your secret is safe with me.”
