Book Review ~ My Little Secret by Ember Leigh

I received an ARC of My Little Secret by Ember Leigh to read and review. Ember is a new author to me and I enjoyed reading her writing style. I couldn’t put this book down. Hawk was Sadie’s brothers biggest MMA rival and the star of Sadie’s fantasies for the past year.

“Sadie was new to me, but she felt like coming home” – Hawk

This book was great. Loved this quick little love story between two people who shouldn’t be together. I have found a new author to read. I was disappointed when the book ended, I wanted Sadie and Hawk’s story to continue. A definite 5 star read!

Focus is my middle name. But Sadie makes me forget why I’m in town, what I’m here to win, why it all matters. That alone should tell me to stay the hell away. But I need more of her, even though I know she’s hiding something from me.I’ll do anything to keep her by my side. Just how far I’ll go will be my little secret.

I’ve had my eye on Hawk for a long time now. Let’s just call him my MMA celebrity dream lover. So when I find myself in Denver at the same time as him, at the same bar as him…I have to say hi. But I sure as hell shouldn’t take it any farther than that. Because he’s in town for one reason: to fight my brother in the biggest televised MMA match of the year.
I can be good… Except I can’t.

But maybe I can make Hawk my little secret.

Cover Reveal ~ Fining Alexei by Kendall Ryan

Spotting a hooker on a city street corner is not an abnormal thing.

Me bringing one home? Well, that’s a first.
But this girl . . . She’s in trouble.
And this asshole is not a guy she wants to go home with.
So I do the exact thing I shouldn’t—I offer to bring her home with me instead.
She says this is the first time she’s ever done this, which is adorably ironic.
Then proceeds to tell me a sob story about needing money to care for the baby who was left on her doorstep. That’s when my stomach starts to clench. I think she might be telling the truth.
So I do what any respectable man would do—I take her home, stopping to pick up diapers and formula on the way—and discover that she was telling the truth all along.
Christ on a cracker.
I should have just kept walking.
I should have done a thousand other things except for barge into her sad life, offer to fix everything, fall for her . . .

Review ~ Dear Jane by Kendall Ryan

A second chance romance, a sports romance and Kendall Ryan as the author? Yes please! This book released today and it was amazing! I love football and Kendall Ryan books so I’ve been waiting patiently for this book to release and it didn’t disappoint! Kept picturing Wes as my favorite football Ottawa Redblack. Absolutely loved Jane and Wes and their story. You can never forget your first love, lucky for me I’m with mine and to see Jane and Wes find each other again after 10 years was something special. There was sexy times, funny times and a lot of heartache but they managed to come together again.

This is the perfect book for you if your looking for a quick easy read. Definite 5 start read!

The Player by K. Bromberg

30826144 I received an ARC of K. Bromberg’s The Player. I was super excited to receive the email that I had qualified for advanced copy, I love Kristy’s books and I was honored to get to read her newest book before it was released. I absolutely loved The Player, I didn’t want to put the book down and i’m currently in a book hangover desperately wanting it to be July so book #2 will be out and I can finish the series. We were left with a HUGE cliffhanger and I can’t wait 3 more months to find out what happens next! There was never a dull moment in this book.

Easton Wylder in the Austin Ace’s catcher. When a dirty play from an apposing team injures him, Scout Dalton comes in to rehab Easton. They didn’t expect to fall for each other but they did. With her career and reputation on the line Scout tries to keep Easton at arms length. She’s afraid to get close to someone and have them leave her. Easton is determined to break through Scouts guard so she will let him in.

“You’ve been fighting this kiss all day long, and I practiced restraint like you told me to do..but right now? Right now, I’m going to kiss you senseless, Scout, and I want to fucking enjoy it. So, for the love of God, woman, use those lips of yours on me and not on words”

You can’t help but fall in love with Easton. He’s kind, caring and the sweetest man. He’s my newest book boyfriend and proudly joins the ranks of Colton, Becks, Hawkin, Tanner,  Hayes and Ryder. I look forward to reading the next and final book in the series, this book will definitely be a book to re-read over and over again, especially with the start of the baseball season. Baseball never seemed so sexy until now. Is it July yet?

Down Shift

So I finished Down Shift today. I was scared to read it, having a hard time picturing Zander as a grown man when I keep seeing the scared little boy from Driven.  I bought the bullet and read it because I agreed to post a review on my blog and because let’s face it a book written by K. Bromberg can’t sit in my kindle not read. As usual for Kristy she didn’t disappoint with this book. Gone is the scared little boy from Driven and he’s replaced with an angry confused adult who reminds me of his adopted father Colton. They share a connection only children of abuse and drug addicts share and it gives them a special bond. This same connection is shared between Getty and Zander although Getty’s abuse was different but brought the two together when they were both running away from different things. To watch their love evolve before they themselves realized it brought back the memories of Colton and Rylee doing the same. What a great read this was and I’m so glad I didn’t let my fear hold me back from reading this one.

Below is the authors summary of the book and links to buy your copy. This is a must read novel!

Meet Zander & Getty in DOWN SHIFT –

the newest stand alone in the Driven Series by K. Bromberg!

The New York Times bestselling Driven series continues with a story about finding love where you least expect it…

Behind the wheel, racing champion Zander Donavan is at the top of his game. But after too much excess in his personal life, he’s forced to step away. He needs to accomplish something all on his own—outside of his famous father, Colton Donavan’s, shadow.

Getty Caster is running away from the abuse that clouds her past. She thinks she’s found the perfect escape—until she discovers a stranger in the beachside cottage she’d been promised. He’s undeniably sexy, but she’s there to heal. Alone.

Before long though, fighting with each other turns into fighting their attraction. And giving into desire sets off a chain reaction that has their pasts colliding. With an unexpected love on the line, can they overcome the fallout to build a future?

“You don’t know anything about me.” My voice is slight but strong, my need to assert myself front and center despite his calling me on the carpet.

“That’s where you’re wrong, Socks. I might not know where you’re from or why I ruffled your feathers today, but I know you’re stronger than you give yourself credit for. Whatever it is that you ran from back home, you did it. You got out and are making it on your own. That takes guts and you deserve mad props for that. I know you like things messy and are goddamn cute when you’re tipsy. I know you’re stubborn as hell and gorgeous as fuck. And that your kiss tastes like an aged whiskey: something I want to sip slowly, feel on my lips, savor on my tongue, and take my time with before I get drunk on it.” With a lift of his eyebrows and a nod of his head, he walks past me, leaving me with my mouth agape and eyes wide.

I can’t move. Just stand staring at the door in front of me as I try to process what he just said, what he meant by it, and yet there’s no use because we just had a whole one-sided conversation and that need to banter with him is gone. Lost to the tingling in my lower belly and the wild spinning of my thoughts.

“Oh, and, Getty?” Zander calls out to me from the kitchen, refusing to continue until I turn to face him, standing there unabashedly shirtless. “If you ever call me pretty again, we’re gonna have a real problem. I guarantee you there is nothing pretty about me.”

I almost smile at the fact that out of all of the crappy things I said to him, that is the one that bugged him the most.

“You are kind of pretty, though,” I murmur, unable to resist goading him further, needing to try to get us back on an even playing field. Because hell if right now I don’t feel like I’m on the low end of the teeter-totter.

His immediate response? A snort to signify that his chiseled abs and the tall, dark, and handsome thing he’s got going on are nothing more than average.

“Last warning, Socks.” His eyes flash with mirth. And what looks like desire.

An unexpected part of me—the one who usually hides and doesn’t ever take a chance—wants to say it again. Just to see what he’d do if I did.

“So damn pretty.” I don’t know who’s more shocked at my comment, him or me, but we stand there for a moment, gazes locked, unspoken words warring across the distance between us.

He walks toward me with a predatory gleam in his eyes and a salacious smirk on his lips that catches me off guard. “I know I said you were brave, Getty, but now you’re just playing with matches.”

I draw in a long inhale as he steps right in front of me. I can’t look at him. My nerve is suddenly gone. Outside, rain pelts the roof. The constant drip into the bucket in the hallway serves as a metronome to this anticipatory silence we are dancing in. The goose bumps on his chest are the only thing I can focus on.

When his thumb and forefinger direct my chin up so I’m forced to meet his eyes, every part of me hums from his touch. From the want of something I don’t quite understand myself and couldn’t ever put into words. Our eyes meet—his intense, mine searching for answers that aren’t his to give—before his gaze flicks down to my mouth and then back up again.

“Not yet, Getty.” He closes his eyes for a beat, and I see what I think is restraint reflected in his grimace, before a ghost of a smile spreads on his lips. “I don’t think you’re ready to light this fire just yet.”

Hardball by CD Reiss 200 pages
5 star review! There are no words to describe how good Hardball is – it’s that good! Just from reading the synopsis I couldn’t wait to read this book. As soon as teasers came out, including the first 3 chapter preview, I was hooked. Release day came and I spent the entire day anxious to get home, dinner made and the kids fed so I can dive into one of the most anticipated books (in my opinion) of the spring. The book didn’t disappoint. After 6 hours, a few interruptions to handle mom duties and a few hours past when I normally go to bed for the night I finished the book and was ready to start over from the beginning again. The book had some humor in it, a few baseball metaphors, a little heart ache and a lot of romance.  It’s the best book Christine has written so far and I can’t wait for the next one. The author’s synopsis is below, along with a few memorable quotes from the book.

““It’s the glove you love.” I smiled at my joke and like a dumbass at the same time. “You’re a poet” “I know it””

Vivian is a librarian at a low income school community in LA. She is a kind person, always putting the needs of others before hers and she’s a huge LA Dodgers fan. Dash, a baseball player for the LA Dodgers, is not your typical jock. He’s intelligent and kind, a gentleman through and through and not only does he know his way around a ball field but he knows how to make a woman come. Did I mention he likes to read and even quotes Shakespeare while trying to woo Vivian? The two meet when the school Vivian teaches at goes on a field trip to the stadium. She is collecting signatures of the team on a baseball as a gift for her father, when she reached Dash’s table for a signature he accused her of setting up the entire fieldtrip for her own personal gain. Vivian responded to his accusation with a witty comment “Thank you. If it was too much trouble to sign without an insult, you shouldn’t have bothered. My dad probably wouldn’t notice it was missing.” and left him, unknowingly, lusting after her. He can’t stop thinking about her, and she can’t stop thinking about him.

“I get it. Sometimes I’d like to put a cock in my mouth”

Author’s Synopsis below
Perfect ass.

Perfect arms.
Perfect swagger.
They call Dash Wallace the Diamond King.
He’s the hottest commodity in baseball and in the bedroom.
When he runs the bases, every woman’s eyes are glued to his stunning body and a smile that puts the night lights to shame.
I’m no queen. I’m a regular girl with a regular job. I just watch him on TV and from the bleachers, season after season.
Girls like me grab a guy like that one in a million times.
My number just came up, and he is as spectacular in bed as he is on the field.
But there’s not a woman in the world who can distract Dash Wallace from the game. Not for a moment. Not even me.
Until the night I do. And everything changes.

Forever Pucked by Helena Hunting

I had the pleasure of getting an advanced copy of Forever Pucked by Helena Hunting to read and post a review and Helena didn’t disappoint. Alex and Violets story is my favorite one from the Pucked Series so I was all to excited to find out there was a second story dedicated to them. This book is much like the other’s in the series, funny and romantic, with a little bit of sappiness. I loved it. You can’t help but fall in love with Alex, a Canadian boy from the Toronto Ontario are, and Violet a quirky girl from Chicago.

This book is about Alex and Violet’s happy ever after. If you’ve read any of the other Pucked books, you know Alex and Violet are engaged but Violet breaks out in hives every time anyone mentions anything to do with setting a wedding date and planning a wedding because of what happened at her mother’s wedding when she was 17. That is until something big happens that makes Violet realize she’s ready to finally commit to a wedding date. She is so in love with Alex and wants him to be her forever.

If you like a good romantic comedy this book is for you. I highly recommend this book and any of the other 3 books in the Pucked series. It’s an easy read that will make you laugh so hard your crying.

I would like to thank Helena for the opportunity to read and review Forever Pucked before it’s released to the public. Below are links to pre-order. It will be released March 29th.

Below is the synopsis of the book taken from Goodreads.

Being engaged to Alex Waters, team captain and the highest paid NHL player in the league, is awesome. How could it not be?

In addition to being an amazing hockey player, he’s an incurable romantic with an XL heart, and an XXL hockey stick in his pants. And he knows how to use it. Incredibly, orgasmically well. Alex is the whole package and more. Literally. Like his package is insane. Total world record holder material.

So it makes complete sense that Violet Hall can’t wait to nail him down to the matrimonial mattress and become Mrs. Violet Waters.

It’s so romantic.

Violet is totally stoked to set a date.

Eventually. At some point. Likely before the next millennium. Or when Violet stops getting hives every time someone brings up the wedding, and their mothers stop colluding on stadium sized venues. Whichever comes first.

The Baller

The Baller is about a NFL football player as our hero and a female sportscaster as our heroine. Both were afraid to fall in love because they have loved before and been hurt. Brody is our typical hero, a player with no interest in settling down anytime soon. Delilah is a female professional sportscaster. She meet’s Brody for the first time in her very first interview as a professional sportscaster and he was an arrogant ass. Rumor was Brody didn’t believe women should have a place in the men’ss locker room but Delilah didn’t care. She earned her spot there and wasn’t going to let some arrogant ass ruin that for her.

I heard about this book through a facebook reading group Holiday Reads. It’s one of many facebook reading groups that have authors take over the page for an hour to promote their books. This book caught my eye instantly. I was looking for a book about a football player after reading one about a NHL hockey player. I’m a Canadian girl who grew up to enjoy hockey like every Canadian did. I recently started following the Canadian Football League, the Canadian version of the NFL and it’s my new favorite sport to watch. I spent the whole book thinking Brody was my favorite player on my favorite team and I was Delilah.

There was a good mix of sexy and comedy in this book. Getting to know the real Brody he’s easy to fall for. He’s kind and generous, in and out of the bed. Delilah was realizing he wasn’t a bad guy after all. He pursued her and she kept him at arms length telling him she wasn’t looking for casual sex, she was only interested in sex in a relationship and that meant dating, something Brody doesn’t do. His need for her was so great he gave in and gave Delilah the relationship she was looking for. Things were going great until Brody’s past reared it’s ugly head. Could Brody and Delilah make it or is this a love story that doesn’t end with a happy ending? Read The Baller for yourself to find out.
