BLURB:

USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn brings more humor and heart with the fourth novel of her Getting Lucky series: a story about breaking curses and finally finding that swoony feeling.

I’m single . . . so single it’s painful.

Yup, ladies, Brig Knightly–that’s me–is still a lonely bachelor, stumbling through the streets of Port Snow, looking for the girl he’s supposed to end up with.

That is until my brother, Rogan, presents me with the opportunity of a lifetime. The Summer of Love, a secret pen pal program in Port Snow is looking for applicants and I’m the perfect fit.

I couldn’t sign up fast enough.

I found myself quickly falling in love with a pair of red lips at the bottom of a letter. Just like in the movies . . .

Life could not have been better, that was until I started hanging out with Ruth Barber. Starting a new business right next to my shop, I found myself gravitating toward her. Her smile, her humor . . . her tea sandwiches.

My attraction for Ruth came in full force, leaving me dazed, confused, and *ahem* excited.

As new feelings for two women come to a screeching halt, I have to figure out who to choose. But when I discover my pen pal is Ruth, it might be too late.

All I want in life is to experience that swoony feeling . . . but I think I might have just missed my chance.

PROLOGUE:

**BRIG**

Hands stuffed in my pockets, I look at Reid while nibbling on the corner of my lip. “But—”
“Brig, I swear to God,” Reid says, dragging his hand down his face while we make our way past Jackson Square, toward Café Du Monde. “Do not ask about your penis turning green one more goddamn time. We all looked at it. It’s flesh colored. Any signs of green you might have seen was from the shit lighting in the bathroom. Now, drop it.”
“Yeah, okay,” I sigh, even though I don’t feel convinced.
Something happened last night.
Something terrifying.
Something that has left me shaking in my shoes—because I don’t wear boots—wanting to rip my pants down repeatedly to make sure things are still intact.
Two days ago, I turned twenty-one, and to celebrate the youngest Knightly’s freedom to hold a beer in his hand legally, my three brothers took me to New Orleans to party in style. And we did . . . up until last night, when the depths of hell tried to swallow us all whole.
Mom warned us, saying, “Don’t get into any trouble.”
My dad slapped the back of our heads before we left and told us to use our brains.
Even our sister, the oldest and wisest of the Knightly children, stared us in the eyes and told us not to do anything stupid.
And yet, we failed all of them.
Have you ever been to New Orleans? Neither had I, but I’d heard great things about the place. Drinking in the streets and peekaboo boobs on every corner.
Beignets and rice and beans.
Scandalous fun.
Sounded like a great time.
But after doing extensive research before the trip—I like to plan ahead—the one thing I wanted to avoid, the one thing that made me extremely nervous, was the voodoo magic prevalent on the grimy cobblestone streets.
You know what I’m talking about. The dark stuff, the chilling life-altering spells that can change you as a man . . . as a human.
*Whispers* Black magic . . .
We did a great job avoiding any and all scary things, until last night, when I inadvertently ran smack dab into the palms of evil.
Shocking news: I was drunk. I couldn’t tell if I was walking on cobblestone streets last night or lobster rolls—that’s how far gone I was—so when I stumbled over a palm reader’s table and broke it, I wasn’t exactly aware of the severity of my mistake.
She roared with displeasure.
Her eyes tore through me with veritable hatred that shook me to the tip of my dick.
And her gangly fingers rattled while she spoke vehemently.
Terrified out of my wits, I held up my palm while my brothers tossed her twenty bucks and asked her to read it.
I wish I could remember what she said.
The future she spoke of is all a blur at this point. Pretty sure she said something about how incredibly handsome I am and how I outshine my brothers with the curves of my jaw, but I can’t be quite sure. The boys deny that part of the story, but they don’t deny the stark hatred that spit like venom from the petrifying woman’s mouth.
My brothers, of course, didn’t make the situation any better by making fun of her predictions. They actually sparked the flame that set the fire. I might be telling this wrong—you know, completely wasted and all—but the moment the palm reader turned an evil shade of hate, I felt every ounce of fun-loving booze seep from the bottom of my feet and out into the streets, sobering me up to the point of understanding.
In a whirlwind of vengeful movements, her arms waved about, the wind swirled around us, trash from the streets danced around my jean-covered legs, and the palm reader’s eyes turned yellow—I confirmed that fact with all three brothers this morning.
Indeed, her eyes were yellow.
And then she said something I will never forget . . .
This wretch of a wench cloaked in the devil’s garb took our fate into her own hands and punished us with broken love.
Broken.
Love.
If you know me at all, you’d know that would cut deep to my very being.
Then Reid said something about her telling us our dicks were going to fall off or turn green; can’t be sure, because I was stunned. Stunned with the notion that my entire life goal of getting married and becoming a doting husband was quickly stripped from my soul and set into blazing embers, never to be seen again.
The miscreant cursed the one thing I strive for as a man . . . that swoony feeling of being wrapped up in a warm, safe relationship with a woman.
And I can’t shake it.
No matter what my brothers say, no matter how many times they tell me to drop it, I keep worrying. I keep remembering the whirl of evil that was cast upon us. I keep trying to decode the meaning of it all.
Are we truly cursed?
“There’s a table over there,” Griffin, my oldest brother, says, making a beeline toward the back corner of the incredibly busy beignet-making icon. We came here for their famous beignets when we first arrived and decided to indulge one more time.
We catch a flight to Port Snow this afternoon and before we get back to our gossip-loving town, I want to set some things straight.
Taking seats, we quickly put in an order for beignets and a café au lait each, and when the waitress leaves, I say, “Can we talk about last night?”
Reid groans and slouches in his chair. He’s in a shit mood, and I’m not sure if it’s from the phone call he got last night that he’s not talking about or if it’s because he’s hung over. Maybe a combo of both. “Can we not?”
“Aren’t you worried?” I ask, looking around at my brothers. I can’t possibly be the only one who’s concerned here.
But it seems like I might be.
Griffin is texting. His wife, I’m sure.
Rogan is staring at the trifold menu on the table.
And Reid is rubbing his eyes with his palms, looking like he wants to be anywhere but here.
“Uh, hello? Do you guys not remember what happened last night? The whole alarming witch in a cloak thing, waving her dangly bone fingers at us. Table-breaking, palm-reading curses being flung about like beads off a balcony? Ring a bell?”
Griffin sets his phone down and lets out a deep breath. His tone is the even, oldest-brother sensible voice. “We were drunk last night, Brig.”
“Yeah, we were, but it doesn’t negate the fact that we all woke up with the same story this morning. She cursed us. You’re telling me none of you are concerned?” I glance around to all three pairs of blue eyes, the same blue eyes I share, and none of them are returning the look. Which tells me they’re not willing to admit they’re just as scared as I am.
I poke Rogan in the side. “Hello, are you listening?”
“Trying not to,” he says, his fingers pressing to his left eye. “Fuck, my head is pounding.” Rogan is my second oldest brother, the quiet and annoyed one. He’s had a rough go at life and barely cracks a smile anymore. He’s more interested in punishing himself for the decisions he’s made in the past than in parting the dark cloud that hangs over his head so he can experience the world. As a retired football player, if pushed too hard, he’s been known to fight back. I think I’ll pass on leaning on him now.
“Griff.” I turn to the reasonable one in the group. “You saw it all, the way she spouted off that little limerick about broken love. She came up with that out of nowhere. It rhymed and everything. Who does that? Who wishes broken love on unsuspecting tourists? Frankly, it’s fucked up.”
The waitress drops off our food and drinks. We give her a mumbled thank you before she takes off to serve another table in the busy outdoor seating area.
Mouth full of beignet and powdered sugar coating his lips, Griffin says, “If she was half the palm reader she said she was, then she would have known that I was already married and this curse she set upon us was flawed. Yeah, was it strange that there was wind whipping around when she raised her arms—”
“The wind was weird,” Rogan says.
“Wind freaked me out,” Reid grumbles while bringing his coffee up to his lips.
“Now you chime in,” I say with an eye roll.
“Can I finish?” Griff asks, sounding annoyed. We all silence ourselves with bites into our beignets. “The wind was a strange coincidence, but I also think she was deranged. There’s no merit to what she said, and I think we would waste time thinking about it anymore than we have. Let’s just enjoy breakfast and then get the hell out of here.”
“Agreed,” Rogan says.
“Yeah,” Reid murmurs.
“But—”
They all shoot me a death glare, and I snap my mouth shut.
I’m outnumbered, and even if I try to press it, they’re not going to change their minds. They’re chalking this experience up to what seems like a drunken it-was-all-an-illusion-we’ll-soon-forget night.
But just a quick glance around the table, and I don’t buy it.
Worried brows.
Keeping to themselves.
Shifty eyes.
They’re thinking about it just as much as I am.
Listen to me, to the words I have spoken.
From this day on, your love will be broken.
It isn’t until your minds have matured
That the weight of this curse will forever be cured.
Might not seem like a big deal, but I have a bad feeling our worlds are about to be flipped upside down.
And boy, were our lives flipped.
Griffin lost his wife.
Rogan’s high school sweetheart re-emerged with a vengeance.
Reid’s restaurant, his pride and joy, was stolen from him.
And me . . . well, I haven’t been in a relationship since the fateful day when my taut and beautiful ass tumbled over a palm reader’s table. Just bad luck? That everything good, everything we loved was taken away from us?
No.
It was the curse, but surely things would improve on their own. Wouldn’t they?
From this day on, your love will be broken.

REVIEW:

This book was AMAZING! Don’t ever judge a book by its cover. I was given The Swoony Feeling as an ARC, otherwise I wouldn’t have read it. The cover screams country romance to me and that’s not a huge interest of mine. Two chapters in and I was hooked! I was reading and thought the town and characters were familiar and I haven’t read any of the other 3 books in the Getting lucky series so I was a bit confused until it clicked that the town and Ruth’s friends were from another book. I love when characters cross over characters from other books they’ve written.

This book had all the feels. Brig isn’t your typical guy. He’s a romantic at heart and is looking for his soulmate but thinks he was cursed on his 21st birthday and would never find love. Ruth has had a crush on him for years but she believes Brig doesn’t see her for her and just the girl who serves him coffee every day. They both enter into the summer of love pen pal program and little do they know but they are paired together. In the mean time they’ve been spending a lot of time together building a great friendship and Ruth falls for Brig even more but he’s still blind.

This book has humour and romance all wrapped up in one. There were a couple of times I almost broke out in tears reading this book, that’s how good it was. I now need to backtrack and read the other books in the series. 5 amazing stars for this book!

Laundry Family Series Review

I’ve been reading Adriana Locke’s Landry Family series the last few weeks. It’s a 5 book standalone series and each book is about one of the Landry kids, except for 1 who’s book was moved into another series. Each book so far (as I’m writing this pos I’m only on book 4) is its own trope. So far each of the men have a fetish with food and sex.

First up what Berrett. Its your political romance. Barrett is the Mayor of Savannah and Alison is one of the waitresses for the catering company he’s using at one of this election events. His food fetish is grapes. I can’t look at grapes the same way anymore without thinking of how Barrett used them on Alison as foreplay the first time they were together. My panties are getting a little wet just thinking about it.

The second story was Lincoln’s story. It’s your sports romance. Lincoln was a baseball player. Danielle worked with sick kids at a hospital. She refused to date athletes because their sport is their #1 priority and she didn’t want to end up like her parents. Lincoln’s food fetish was an ice cube. What I wouldn’t give to feel an ice cube on my most sensitive flesh!

Third book was Graham’s story and so far my favourite to I’m only just starting book 4. He’s the alpha (so far) of the Landry men. He’s a control freak in and out of the bedroom. This book is your office romance; Graham is the CEO of the family business, Mallory is his executive assistant. Their attraction to each other is immediate and could end in disaster for one or both of them. Graham has been hurt by a woman before so he keeps his heart locked and won’t let women in. He’s not interested in relationships because they take too much time away from work. Graham’s food fetish is maple syrup and bacon, my favourite so far. We are known for our maple syrup up here in Canada and the idea of Graham licking it off my body is a huge turn on!

Book 4 was Ford’s story. It’s trope was second chance romance. Ford and Ellie dated back in high school. Ford had decided that he wasn’t good enough for Ellie and broke it off with her after he enlisted. When Ford was discharged, he moved back home and started his own security company. After some secret matchmaking by Mallory, Graham’s girlfriend, Ford ends up running into Ellie at her new business. They both still loved each other, even though its been 10 years since they split. That reunion was one of the best I’ve seen written in a romance book. Ford’s food fetish was hard candy.

Book 5 was Camilla’s story. Its trope was the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Camilla bothered me like no other character has before. I was always yelling at her in my head. She dated Dom for over 10 months before her family even met him. She was too afraid that they would’t approve of him because he’s blue collar and not one of the upperclass men she’s supposed to date. After reading about her parents and siblings throughout the books I knew they wouldn’t care that he was not rich so long as he treated Cam with the respect she deserved and never hurt her.

There was supposed to be a 6th book from what I can tell but inspiration must have taken over while writing Sienna’s story because the book name changed and became part of the Gibson Boys series which was amazing, another must read.

These books gave me a new found love of Adriana’s writing. I had read some of her books before and I’m even in her reader Facebook group. She has now become one of my one click authors and I love that all her books are on Kindle Unlimited. Book 1 had been on my kindle for months before I finally dove in and read it, my only disappointment was taking so long to read it.

Hard to Handle by K. Bromberg

It’s been a long time since I wrote a blog post about a book I read so this has got to tell you just how good the book was. It’s a sports romance about Hockey by one of my favorite authors, I couldn’t wait to dive into this book. Being busy with my full time job, it’s allowed me the time to enjoy the book slowly. I usually finish books in 1-2 sittings and don’t really retain much of the book but with this book I’ve been picking it up for an hour here and there in my me time in the morning and reading for a few hours in the evening after work and errands.

Kristy has done it again. Hard to Handle was an amazing book! A lot of sports romances don’t have a lot in them about the sport the hero plays but Kristy wrote a lot about the game in this one. Its a 5+ star read that almost had me in tears at times and then smiling ear to ear at others. It’s a must read.

Hunter Maddox is a thirty something NHL hockey player who you fall in love with right away. He’s the typical athlete alpha. Dekker describes him perfectly in the book “Complicated and multi-layered, incredibly gifted, a god in the sack, yet troubled by something significant” I don’t think I could describe him any better.

Dekker is not your typical heroine. She’s full of sass and takes it as good as she gets it. She’s an agent for her fathers agency and is asked by her dad to sign Hunter as a client with the family business. Her and Hunter were lovers years ago, friends with benefits type deal that ended when she developed feelings for him.

Watching the buildup between the two of them felt real. She doesn’t feel like she can love or be loved by a man and Hunter has ghosts in his past that has him believing hes not good enough to be in a relationship. Hockey is all he needs, all he has time for.

I loved the subtle reference Kristy put in this book that referenced her very first book, Driven. With Dekker being a sports agent, I kept waiting to see Colton or Zanders name pop up in conversations. Coincidence that Hunters jersey number is 13? My hometown teams colours are red and white like the LumberJacks so I think I need to get a jersey made with the number 13 on it.

Excerpt

“Just face it, Knox. You’re head over heels in love with me.” Jack finally smiles, dimple winking and those eyes lighting up as he takes a step toward me, holding the scoop to his chest. “You can’t be near me because you want me, and you can’t talk to me because you get all flustered and tongue-tied.”

“There is nothing about you I find attractive,” I lie.

He places the scoop in my hand but doesn’t let it go when I try to take it. “It’d be much easier and a whole lot less distracting if I could say the same of you.” He lets go of the scoop and dips the tip of his hat in an aw-shucks kind of way. “But I’m not one to lie.”

Our eyes hold across the short distance as his comment floats through the air and fades like the dust specks dancing in the sunlight.

“That won’t work, you know?” I say.

“What won’t?”

“You trying to charm me every time you want something. I know your kind, Jack Sutton, and I’m not impressed by them.”

“Is that so?” He shifts on his feet and adjusts his hat before re-crossing his arms over his chest. “And what kind is that?”

“A man who uses his good looks and smooth words to get his way with people. A man who turns on the charm to disguise it.”

His eyes darken and then narrow. “Just like you’re the woman who keeps living her privileged life . . . fiddling while Rome burns down around her?” he counters, making me want to scream that he knows nothing about me or how I live or what I’ve been through for the last year. A small part of me is shouting about how that was his point, but I tell the voice to shut up. “And if by good looks and smooth words, you’re implying I’m like Fletcher, I suggest you not infer that again.” That muscle in his jaw feathers in contempt.

“I’m not the woman you think I am.”

He twists his lips and stares at me in a way that feels like he is seeing right through me. It’s unnerving and unsettling, and I force myself not to look away because his silence is telling me that maybe he thinks I am.

I’m not sure why that bugs me. Why I want him to see me as someone different.

“I’m not even certain you know who that woman is either.”

Blog Tour ~ The Billionaire book club by Max Monroe

TBBC - BT Banner

Took me a little while but I finally finished this book. It was due to lack of time to read and not because the book wasn’t interesting. I enjoyed Cap’s book. We got to see the connection develop over the course of a few months. Cap the biggest player of all the billionaires and he did the chasing with Ruby. It was sweet to see.

The book was full of humour from both Cap and Ruby. They make a perfect match for each other. This was a great book!

It’s going to take a strategic attack from more than a couple brilliant minds to win her affection, but luckily, I know exactly where to find the right guys for the job…

The Billionaire Book Club.

#1: Who is your least favorite character in the book?

Me—Caplin Hawkins. I am an absolute idiot.

#2: Who is your favorite character?

Gorgeous, addictive, insanely challenging Ruby.

She’s smart, driven, self-confident, and so beautiful, she makes my chest ache.

#3 What is your biggest takeaway from the story?

Ruby Rockford and I are meant to be.

I just have to prove it to her.

For the entirety of my adult life, I’ve been content.

Content in my single lifestyle, content in my stressful-but-extremely-successful job as the main corporate counsel for almost every Fortune 500 company in North America, and content in my playful, spontaneous ways.

I had no idea it was possible for someone to change my mind.

The endless women and work are no longer enough, and just as Ruby Rockford told me—it’s about time I grow up.

It’s going to take a strategic attack from more than a couple brilliant minds to win her affection, but luckily, I know exactly where to find the right guys for the job…

The Billionaire Book Club.

It’s safe to say that I, Caplin Hawkins, the man most women would call The Ultimate Player, have finally met my match, and man oh man, has my end game changed.

Errands officially run and work and Hell-ary’s margs with the girls out of my fucking head, I settle into poker night with the guys.

This, right here, is exactly what I needed.

Just the guys, smoking cigars, and playing poker.

Smoke swirls above the green felt of the table as Thatcher Kelly knocks the ashy end off his cigar, puts it back in his mouth, and deals a round of cards.

I catch them under my hand as he throws them, placing them one by one into the palm of my other hand and studying what luck has dealt me.

This hand gives me a queen, a king, and a trio of shitty other random cards, but in my actual life, it’s a whole lot of really good shit.

I’m a happy guy with a job he loves, friends he can count on, and more money than I’ll ever know what to do with.

I don’t have to worry about making the mortgage every month, I don’t have a sordid past with demons to conquer and wounds to heal, and I get more pussy than the SPCA.

There are occasionally stressful situations that come with being the top corporate lawyer for nearly every muckety-muck in the country, but I thrive off the pressure. It feeds my need for adrenaline and puts a nice layer of padding on an already swollen ego.

Which is, frankly, just how I like it.

Confidence keeps my life balanced. If I weren’t confident in my abilities at work, I’d be spending this time poring over files instead of enjoying a game of poker with my rarely available, pussy-whipped friends. But I know myself, I know my tenacity, I know my willingness to work an all-nighter, and most importantly, I know a little free time for pleasure does the business part of my mind a whole lot of good.

Kline Brooks, Thatcher Kelly, Wes Lancaster, Milo Ives, Trent Turner, and Harrison Hughes sit around the table in front of me, arranging their cards and smoking their cigars in comfortable silence. Quincy Black and Theo Cruz couldn’t make it tonight—something about a baby and a new hip nightclub respectively—but as I understand it, they have a standing invitation to poker night as well.

When the last card is dealt, Thatcher Kelly, a numbers genius, friend, fellow billionaire, and client of mine, places his cigar in an ashtray and shoves back in his chair to make his massive frame look even bigger. Frankly, I’m the only one in this group of guys who even comes close to his size, but I’m still not a giant like him. At six foot three and just over two hundred pounds, I’m leaner, but I can still pretty much guarantee I’m the stronger of the two of us.

“Welcome, motherfluffers…to the official Thatcher Kelly Poker Night, trademark.”

I roll my eyes at his theatrics, and trust me, I’m not the only one. Thatch has been trying to get a poker night going for our group for months, and now that it’s finally happening, I’m not even a little surprised he’s treating it like the first night of the Olympics. “What happens here, stays here, locked away from the women, the men, the children in your lives. This is a sacred table, a sacred ritual, a sacred game, and you will respect it.”

“Jesus,” Kline Brooks, another client of mine, CEO of the popular dating app TapNext, and Thatch’s best friend in the whole world, mutters.

Thatch carries on, unaffected. “I know you have other things in your lives, and I’ll allow it, but from here forward, this biweekly game is to become your priority.”

“No,” Wes Lancaster, owner of the New York Mavericks and another one of Thatch’s best friends, remarks. “I’ll be here when and if I have time. Fuck your sanctity. And, for the sake of everyone’s sanity, let’s keep your text reminders of poker night down to one in the future.”

“You’re disrespectful and disappointing, Whitney. You should be happy I allowed you, a woman, to participate.” Thatch smirks. “This is supposed to be boys only.”

Wes holds up his middle finger and takes a puff on his cigar, and I jump in as a colorful referee.

“Relax, guys. I think what Thatch is trying to say is that he misses you guys. You’re all so busy with your pussy—”

“Hey!”

“Yo!”

“What the fuck?”

“I’d tread lightly…”

The chorus of responses is loud and overwhelming, but I shush them with a hand and continue. “That we never really get to hang out anymore. This is a chance to bond like men. To talk about things you can’t talk about at home. To relax and play poker and not give a fuck about anything else.”

“I’m pretty fucking relaxed at home,” Milo interjects, and unfortunately, the rest of the band of misfits nods in agreement.

“Well, fuck you guys very much,” I say with a sour laugh. “Do it for me, then.”

“Technically, they’re doing it for me,” Thatch corrects. “And I’d keep your voice down. If Cassie hears you say some of this shit, I’m not gonna hold her back for you.”

“Your wife is here?” I question with a groan. “I thought this was about the guys. A sacred ritual locked away from the women and children in your lives—”

“It is, it is,” Thatch interrupts with a sigh. “But Cassie wouldn’t let me come into the city to have poker night at our Manhattan apartment and leave her with the kids at the New Jersey house, so she got a sitter, and the girls are having a meeting in their space, all the way on the other side of the apartment. Don’t worry. This is the guys’ space. They know that.”

Manhattan apartment. New Jersey house. Talk about first world problems.

Thatcher Kelly has more houses and apartments than he has members of his family.

Not that I can’t say the same for myself, but that’s minor details.

I roll my eyes at his pathetic words. Cassie Kelly wouldn’t follow a directive given by her husband if it literally saved her life. She wears the pants in their relationship, and Thatch usually doesn’t deny it. Instead, he just presents her tits as evidence.

They’re great tits, I’ll give him that, but I play with my fair share of great fucking tits, and I do it without having someone holding my balls hostage in exchange.

“So, we should expect her to pop in within the next ten minutes, then,” I remark, and even Kline, the most adult of the entire group, snickers behind a hand.

“She’s not gonna pop in, okay?” Thatch booms. “Fluffing hell. It’s like you don’t trust—”

“Yoo-hoo!” his wife interrupts appropriately, peeking her head around the door of the smoky room. “You guys hungry, or are you too busy punching one another in the dick?”

Thatch sighs and closes his eyes as I give him a hard glare. The rest of the group breaks out in smiles. Thatch places his cards on the table and turns to look over his shoulder so he can meet his wife’s startlingly blue eyes.

“Honey, I thought we talked about this. Poker night needs separation from ladies’ night. Like church and fluffing state.”

“Well, excuse me,” Cassie replies pseudoangrily, opening the door fully to step inside, “for fluffing checking on the status of your big, ogre stomach. From here on out, I’ll let you starve.”

I bite my lip and lower my cards to the table before letting my head drop back as Thatch jumps up so they can bicker in closer proximity.

“Christ, woman! Did you get your annual exam today, or are you just raging for no reason?”

“Your exams are gonna be reduced down to annual if you don’t cool your fluffing jets.”

“My jets are cool!” Thatch shouts, and the rest of us groan as Cassie lunges forward and punches him…right in the dick.

Ah hell.

As annoyed as I am at him, my crotch throbs sympathetically.

Cassie storms off, and Thatch, hunched over in a ball of agony, turns back to the table. “I’ll be right back.”

Still almost fetal, he waddles through the opening at a surprisingly brisk pace.

As the door closes behind him, the other guys start to chatter.

“The rest of our lives, guys. It will be this way for the rest of our lives,” Kline mutters, and Wes laughs.

“Not if we cut him out of the friendship circle.”

Kline smirks but simultaneously rolls his eyes. “Like that’s possible. Try to cut that fucker out, and he’ll end up shadowing you during your colonoscopy.”

“I’m not scheduled for a colonoscopy,” Wes refutes with a laugh.

Kline clucks. “Ah, but you will be. That’s how ridiculous his power is. You won’t even know how it happened until he’s snapping on latex gloves and suiting up.”

Harrison Hughes, a longtime employee of my father’s media company HawCom and friend of ours, laughs. He’s a little older than I am, but I’ve known him long enough that it doesn’t feel like there was a time when we weren’t friends. He also played rugby with Wes, Kline, and Thatch for a while, and he still throws his old, dilapidated ass into a game in the park every now and then. But, as the only single guy left other than Theo and me, I’m fairly certain he does it all just so he has a way to impress the ladies. “Wait. He’s the doctor now? What the fuck?”

Kline shrugs and chuckles. “Trust me. After this many years of friendship, I don’t put anything past that guy.”

Wes nods begrudgingly. “He’s surprisingly adept at making just about anything possible. That’s how Lexi ended up interning for fucking Hugo Clouse. She’s a teenager, and he’s basically the Wolf of fucking Wall Street, without the cocaine and hookers.”

I laugh. “Geez. Where’s the fun in that?”

They all ignore me.

“How’s she liking it?” Kline asks.

“All those numbers?” Wes questions with a laugh. “She loves it. Pretty sure she’s going to be managing my hedge fund by the time she’s twenty.” Kline smiles. “Win’s feeling the blues, though. Says her baby is growing up too fast.”

Milo smiles, even though I’m not sure he’s ever met Wes’s stepdaughter, and I don’t miss the pathetic fucking longing that goes with it. The bastard’s been a fucking goner since he got involved with his best friend Evan’s little sister. Now, he’s engaged to be married and apparently ready to add some mini-Milos into the mix.

Wait a minute…

“Oh God,” I groan at him, throwing my head back dramatically. “Don’t tell me Maybe is pregnant already.”

“Is she?” Trent asks, his inflection going noticeably upward at the end. Because, unlike me, he’s excited.

Love-sick fools. The whole lot of ’em.

“No,” Milo says with a little smile. “I’m just thinking about the day she will be.”

“Ugh,” I groan, miming sticking a finger down my throat. “First of all, you just got en-fucking-gaged, you bastard. And secondly, are we really talking about women and babies during poker night? And not, like, the good part of women, like how well their pretty mouths can wrap around our cocks. But how lovely they are?”

Trent laughs. “Yeah, Cap. If you stopped sleeping your way through the entire city, you might find out why.”

I scoff. “Fuck that. I’m not like you guys. I like a plethora of pussy, and I like it often. I’m not gonna tie myself to one chick for the sake of…what? Insanity?”

Trent shakes his head, while Milo smiles behind his drink, the fucker. They’re absolutely convinced I’ll be just like them one day, twiddling my dick while some high-class chick shops with my money.

But they don’t know me like they think they do. I like my life the way it is. Full of freedom and fucking and anything else I want to do.

My time is my own, and my body, a free agent.

I get to sample the best of the best, over and over if I want or just take a taste. I have my cake, and I eat it too, and fuck anyone who thinks just because it’s the way of the world, I need to change my ways.

In fact, after today, there’s a new pussy on the horizon, new fun to be had.

The pretty blonde with the hot body at the library who apparently likes to listen to audiobooks that are reminiscent of some of sixteen-year-old Cap’s favorite pornos.

Goddamn, she was something. A petite little bombshell whose choice in listening pleasure has me more than intrigued.

She didn’t give me her name, but it doesn’t matter. I am a man who thrives off a good challenge, and I already know my future romp with her will be a better time than any of these fuckers has ever had.

And hell, who doesn’t love a good naughty librarian fantasy?

Certainly not me.

That pretty little librarian doesn’t know it yet, but she’s the new chase.

My new mission.

And I won’t stop until I’ve tasted her and fucked these guys and their monogamy right out of my damn head.

New Release ~ Park Avenue Player by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland

PARK AVENUE PLAYER IS LIVE!

 A Standalone Contemporary Romance

New York Times Bestselling Authors Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

BLURB

It started out like any normal day.

Then the fender bender happened.

The guy I collided with drove an expensive car and was drop-dead gorgeous. Too bad he was also a total jerk. We argued over whose fault it was and any other thing that came out of his condescending mouth.

Eventually, the police came and we went our separate ways. The insurance companies would have to figure things out. I had a job interview to get to anyway—one I was excited about.

Though that excitement changed to disappointment the moment the person interviewing me walked in. The guy from the accident.

Whoops!

Yeah, so I didn’t get the position.

The problem was, I really wanted it. No, I needed it. Anything to get me out of my current career and back into working with kids.

So, even though Hollis LaCroix was as intimidating as he was devastatingly handsome, I went back to see him and begged for a chance.

To my surprise, he gave me a shot taking care of his troubled niece.

At least my attraction to him wouldn’t be able to go anywhere. I wasn’t about to jeopardize my job or the strong bond Hailey and I formed.

But resisting the magnetic pull between us wasn’t that simple. (Then there was our little underwear game—don’t ask.)

We continued to flirt without crossing the line—until it finally happened.

This is the part of the story where we fall in love and live happily ever after, right?

Well, life has a way of throwing some major curveballs.

Ours was one I didn’t see coming.

Synopsis:
From the New York Times bestselling
author of One Last Time comes a breathtaking story about first love, second
chances, and starting over.

Teagan Berkley is trying her best. A
single mom raising a precocious teen, she may have given up on her dreams, but
she’s accepted her life in her small beachside hometown. Now the one person who
abandoned her when she needed him the most has returned, bringing back memories
of what might have been.

Derek Hartz arrives in town with a
teenage daughter – and he’s full of guilt over his failed marriage and the way
he ended his friendship with Teagan. He’s determined to set things right with
her, but first he needs to gain her trust. Something he’s not convinced he
deserves.

As Teagan and Derek open up to each
other—and confess their deepest secrets—it’s impossible for them to deny what’s
always been between them. But just when their happily ever after is within
reach, their complicated history surfaces again and threatens to keep them
apart. Forever.
