Book Review ~ Evidence of Desire by Lexi Blake

I received an ARC of Evidence of desire by Lexi Blake. The book is told in the 3rd person and is a murder mystery romance. This is the first mystery romance I’ve ever read. I’m having a hard time getting into the book. I find there’s too much detail, likely because it’s told in the 3rd person and I wish the author would get on with the story.

The book is interesting but has too many details and too many things going on at once. A potential blossoming romance, a murder investigation and a potential scandal. I’ve had a hard time keeping track. Again, I think there’s so much detail because it’s told in the 3rd person and I’m not a fan of 3rd person writing, I much prefer to be in the thoughts of the characters not the narrators, it helps me develop a connection with the characters, something you don’t  get with a 3rd person narration.

The first sex scene didn’t happen until almost halfway through the book and it was a disappointment. All this build up for a moment that wasn’t portrayed as sexy. Part of reading romance novels is the fantasy aspect of the whole love story, how they met, their first kiss, their first time having sex, the last thing I want to read is about words and actions that could typically be found in a normal relationship. I want to read about the fantasy and wish it could happen in real life.

If your a fan of 3rd party narration, this is a 5 star read. It’s full of suspense, both for the murder investigation and the buildup of a romance. If your like me and aren’t a fan of 3rd party narration this is is a 3 star read and that’s why I have to give this book 3 stars.
